Frequently Asked Questions

Can I just use an over the counter spot treater?

Caution caution caution should be used when using over the counter spotters. Some are ok but most are not worth the bottle they come in.  Setting spots can be problematic if you don’t be careful but more so the residue you leave behind will cause spots to return time and time again a little bigger each time. At  Premier Carpet Cleaning I recommend using white vinegar on just about everything first and if that doesn’t remove the spot call me for free for special instructions on specific spotting techniques suited to your situation. Why does a premier carpet cleaning service prefer to vacuum the carpets ourselves?

Most other companies require or request the client to do the vacuuming before they arrive. Here at Premier Carpet Cleaning it’s no secret to all our clients past and present the we prefer to do the carpet vacuuming ourselves. There are several reasons why we choose to do this. Most importantly we want to be slow and methodical in our time spent because more than 70% of carpet cleaning is done in the vacuuming process alone. It seems hardly fair to make the client do 70% of the cleaning does it? Another reason is that many clients rush through the vacuuming simply to get it done quickly. Premier Carpet Cleaning has results that last for a reason and this is one of many.

Are all professional carpet cleaning services the same? I found a great deal for $99 carpet cleaning

This is probably the biggest misconception in the carpet cleaning industry and one that can bring many surprises to new and unsuspecting clients.

They look in some coupon book, find a screaming carpet cleaning deal, make a call and honestly expect someone will come out and clean all the carpets in the whole house, from top to bottom for an advertised 99 dollar special.

I am here to tell you that in order to do a really effective, and professional job, there is no way for a professional carpet cleaner to survive and be profitable at these rates. In order to do a truly premier cleaning job, time must be taken, and shortcuts must be eliminated. No way can a company offering these rates, maintain the cleaning equipment being used, pay for the gas needed, purchase all the chemicals required, and have enough left over to put food on the table.

The main objective to cheap advertised carpet cleaning rates is to sell, sell, sell additional products or services, which usually doubles or triples your bill in a blink.

I don’t know of many people out there who want to hire a professional cleaner to clean carpets that aren’t dirty.

One would think that spot treatment, would be included, along with anything else necessary to get the carpet is clean as possible.  This cannot be determined by an over the phone quote. In home quotes, are essential for everyone involved, as it solidifies a price for the client and the professional to agree on.  It also gives the service professional an opportunity to see what needs to be done, ask questions, and determine the most appropriate course of action to take to get your carpets as clean as possible.

To Bleach or Not To Bleach

In order to get stains out of your carpet Or upholstery it is it never advisable to use chlorine bleach. Nylon fibers will lose their color from chlorine bleach. On a wool carpet bleach will not only remove the color but it will actually dissolve the wool fibers.

How do I remove oil from my carpet?

All the carpet cleaners in the world, say don’t use soap on your carpet; Well this is one time, you have permission to do exactly that!… but you have to be sure, to use the right soap.

In this case, I would use a clear formulation of Dawn dish washing soap.  The procedure is relatively simple… first, you must blot up as much oil from your carpet as possible, this is best done with paper towels.  Once most of the oil has been removed from your carpet, via blotting, take a few extra pieces of paper towel, folding them in quarters, and lay them flat on the oil spot.  You will want to place something with a little weight on top of the paper towels, to aid in absorption and to remove more oil from your carpet.  Switch out the flat paper towels every 10 minutes for about an hour.

Once this is completed, this is when we use the Dawn dish soap. Mix up a solution of 1 part Dawn dish soap to 4 parts water and apply the solution mildly to were the oil spot is. Then agitate aggressively into your carpet, with the smooth back end of a spoon.

Next, turn the spoon over, and gently scrape out the soap residue and water mixture from your carpet.  Repeat this step several times and then blot dry the area.  Doing this procedure, will leave a soap residue in your carpet, but it will most definitely remove the oil residue.  The next time you have Premier Carpet Cleaning come out to clean your house, removing the spot of soap residue, should be no problem at all; where the oil residue would probably pose a challenge and continue to worsen over time.

Is it a good idea to clean carpets with sea water?

I had a client the other day who asked a question and made a comment about Sea Water Carpet Cleaning.

Her neighbor had professional carpet cleaning performed and the technician from the company, used sea water to clean her carpets; which really impressed her neighbor.  After pondering the question for a bit, I admitted I never heard of such a thing!

Seawater, would be a very unsanitary thing to clean your carpets with.

I told the client that the carpet cleaning company in question, must be referring to a water softener on the truck, which uses a special kind of salt to filter the tap water through.  This process gives the water a better ability to rinse much more efficiently and greatly minimizes any and all soap or chemical residue left in the carpets after cleaning.

When carpets have less residue it means they stay cleaner longer and the overall feel of the carpet is softer and plush.

Great topic to bring up…thank you Betty!  Here at Premier Carpet Cleaning, our final rinsing process is done with a water softener as described above. It just makes good sense to use one and definitely provides our clients the carpet cleaning experience that deserve!

Have used Jason several times in the past few years for both our office and home.  Always does a great job .  This week he got some red wine stains out of our carpet and you could never tell the carpet wasn’t brand new.
